The weeklong Homecoming celebration at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) will begin Oct. 21 with a gospel concert and end Oct. 27 with an exciting game. The theme for this year is “Experience the Pride” according to Dr. Charles Colen, Homecoming Committee Chairperson. Other activities for the week include events for students as well as alumni: On Sunday, Oct. 21, the day will begin with a Lady Lions Soccer game at 1 p.m. at Pumphrey Field. At 6 p.m., the Student Government Association (SGA) will sponsor a gospel extravaganza in the Hathaway-Howard Fine Arts Building. The concert is free and open to the public. New this year following the Gospel Extravaganza, a Midnight Madness Homecoming Kickoff will begin at 10 p.m. around the W.E. O’Bryant Bell Tower. Monday, Oct. 22, Senior Stunt Night will be held at 7 p.m. in the Hathaway-Howard Fine Arts Building. On Tuesday, Oct. 23, at 10:30 a.m., the Black & Gold Pride Assembly will be held in the HPER Complex where academic classes will compete for the “best show” with UAPB spirit. On Wednesday, Oct. 24, “Jazz in the Café” will be presented in the L.A. Davis, Sr., Student Union Cafeteria. The cost is $7.05 for non-meal plan diners. All alumni, students, family and friends are invited to attend this SGA sponsored event. Continuing with Wednesday, Miss UAPB will be officially crowned during the Coronation Ceremony at 6:30 p.m., in the Kenneth L. Johnson, Sr., Health Physical Education Recreation (HPER) Complex. The Coronation Ball will begin immediately following the ceremony at the same location. For alumni, the Homecoming Alumni Scholarship Golf Tournament will be held Thursday, Oct. 25, at 8:30 a.m., at Harbor Oaks Golf Course. Registration information can be obtained by calling (870)575-8498. The annual Street Jams and Bonfire will be held Thursday evening from 5 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. on the HPER Complex parking lot. This activity will include a variety of foods, vendors, outdoor games and a pep rally with the marching band. The Annual Alumni Assembly will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 26, in the HPER Arena. Following the Alumni Assembly, a Ground Breaking Ceremony for the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Building will be held at 12:45 p.m. on the parking lot on L.A. “Prexy” Davis Sr. Drive across from the Post Office. SGA will sponsor a Greek Show at 6 p.m. Friday in the Pine Bluff Convention Center. On the day of the game, Saturday, Oct. 27, the Annual Homecoming Parade will begin at 10 a.m. in Downtown Pine Bluff. Pre-game activities will begin at 12:30 p.m. in the Golden Lion Stadium. Kick off time is 2:30 p.m. when the Lions play Mississippi Valley. After the game, alumni and friends can visit the L.A. Davis, Sr. Student Union for a Homecoming Mix and Mingle at 6:00 p.m. and the Band Marching Festival at 7 p.m. in the HPER Arena.
