Introduction tours and informational meetings for students and parents of students attending White Hall Middle School this fall will be more involved in April and May with the planned closure of Redfield Middle School, said Doug Dorris, principal of WHMS.
Students moving from elementary schools and Redfield Middle School to WHMS this fall will be given tours of the latter campus on May 3, Dorris added.
Tours of the WHMS campus for current fifth-graders attending Hardin Elementary School at Redfield and Moody Elementary School at White Hall have been scheduled for 9 a.m.; at 10:15 a.m. for current fifth-graders at Gandy and Taylor elementary schools; and sixth and seventh grade students at RMS at 1 p.m., Dorris said, with bus transportation provided for the 1 p.m. tour.
Parent-teacher conferences will be held March 28 from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the middle school here; at 6 p.m., an informational meeting for all incoming seventh and eighth grade students and their parents will be held in the WHMS gym; and an informational meeting for all incoming sixth grade students and their parents will be held in the WHMS gym.
On April 1, all pre-advanced placement contracts will be available for incoming seventh and eighth grade students to pick up in the counselors’ office. The contracts must be turned in by 8:30 a.m. April 5.
WHMS offers pre-AP classes in language arts, math, science and social studies.
Dorris was scheduled to brief students and their parents at RMS Monday evening “on what we do at the middle school.”
He said the tours and informational meetings are designed “to give a name to the faces they will be seeing at White Hall Middle School and let them know they will be welcome.”
He said a detailed schedule of the various activities will be provided to students and parents, along requirements for classes and athletic activities.
