Redfield cook ranks high at fair cooking competition

LITTLE ROCK — Winners were named in the Karo “Creative Cookie and Dessert” Contest at the Arkansas State Fair.

In the cookie contest, Bonnie Ferguson of Redfield won first place and $150 for her recipe for Cookie Cereal Treats. Kellie Harris of Bryant won second place and $50 for her entry, Peanut Butter Krispie Treats. Beth Wallace of Greenbrier won third place and $25 for her entry, Karo Kookie Krisps.

Kellie Harris won the Delightful Dessert Prize and $110 for her Brownie Pecan Pie. This part of the contest is to celebrate the 110th anniversary of Karo Corn Syrup.

In the Arkansas Farm Bureau Rice Cooking Contest at the Arkansas State Fair contestants vied for honors in three classes — Main Dish, Dessert and Salads. First-place winners received $100; second-place, $50; and third-place, $25. Winners also received a basket of food products and a ribbon.

Ferguson took first place with Southwest Rice Dip.

Also, Ferguson scored high in the Open Baked Foods Competition.

She won Best of Show ribbons in Best Cookie, Best Cake, Best Dessert, Best Quick Bread, Best Candy and Best Wild Card Food (Any Other Baked Food not listed.
