UAPB falls in first round

DECATUR, Ala. — The Arkansas-Pine Bluff softball team was held to just three hits as it lost 2-0 to Alabama State on Wednesday in the first round of the Southwestern Athletic Conference tournament at Wilson Morgan Park.

UAPB’s Lacie Sutterfield was charged with the loss after she pitched seven innings, allowing two runs (both earned) on nine hits with four walks and two strikeouts.

Alabama State’s Bailey Pratt earned the win, after allowing just three hits in seven innings of work. She also struck out four and walked two.

ASU scored its two runs in the third inning.

For ASU (12-32), Stephanie Hernandez finished the day 3 for 3 and Kimberly Ross was 2 for 4 with an RBI. Makayla Webster was 1 for 4 with a RBI for the Hornets.

For UAPB (14-28), Heather Leigh, Tiressa Jacobs and Alexsis McCain each had hits.

The loss dropoed UAPB to the losers’ bracket of the tournament. UAPB will face Jackson State today at 1 p.m.
