LONGVIEW, Texas — The Arkansas-Pine Bluff softball team won its first SWAC game Friday night when it defeated Alcorn State 9-1 in six innings.
Jasmine Hardwrick hit a three-run home run as part of a seven run sixth inning to give UAPB (2-16, 1-0 SWAC) the eight-run win in the SWAC Roundup Tournament.
UAPB also scored a run in the second and a run in the fifth. Alcorn State (3-22, 0-1 SWAC) scored its only run in the fifth inning.
UAPB’s Delya Jackson was 3 for 4 with two runs scored. Nickole Frazier was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and Hardwrick finished 2 of 3 with a run and three RBIs.
Sophomore Jordan Foyer was 2 for 3 with two runs.
Lacie Sutterfield (2-6) was credited with the win after allowing one run (unearned) on five hits with six strikeouts in six innings of work.
For Alcorn State, Kassandra Duncan (0-6) allowed two runs (one earned) on six hits with three walks in 5 1/3 innings of work. Deanna Ranciliio closed out the game, allowing seven runs (five earned) on five hits with two strikeouts. UAPB will play Alabama A&M today at 12:30 p.m.
UA drops doubleheader
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Arkansas softball team fell to the Florida Gators, 8-0, in five innings and 5-2, on Friday in Gainesville, Fla. at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium.
Arkansas (21-12) was led at the plate by freshman Stephanie Canfield, who went 3-for-4 in game two. She also scored a run in game two. Clarisa Navarro notched two of the Hogs’ seven hits in the game, including an RBI single.
