The Arkansas-Pine Bluff men’s basketball team will compete in the HBCU Tip-Off Championship, scheduled for Nov. 8-11 at Philips Arena in Atlanta, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Thursday.
The event’s schedule has not yet been released, but the AJC reported that it includes four Division I teams — UAPB, Texas Southern, Norfolk State and Wisconsin-Green Bay — and Division II squads Morehouse (Ga.), Virginia Union, Johnson C. Smith (N.C.) and Tuskegee (Ala.). Green Bay, unlike the other seven schools, is not a historically black college or university.
The HBCU Tip-Off Championship will include seminars and information on health and economic empowerment, the AJC added.
A full season schedule for UAPB has not been released, but it is known the Golden Lions, who went 16-14 last season, will play at Oklahoma State on Nov. 15 and begin play in the Corpus Christi Challenge against Texas A&M in College Station on Nov. 26. UAPB is also scheduled to play Sam Houston State on Nov. 29 in Corpus Christi and is guaranteed at least one more game in that event.
