LAKE CHARLES – McNeese sophomore Connor Lloyd drove in the winning run with a squeeze bunt in extra innings Sunday to lift the Cowboys to a 3-2 victory and a three-game sweep over Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
McNeese’s Andrew Guillotte led off the bottom of the 10th by reaching first after being hit by the pitch. He advanced to second on an error by UAPB catcher Tyler Oertie.
Taylor Drake grounded out to third and Guillote was able to advance to third on the play. Lloyd scored the runner from third on the RBI infield single.
McNeese improves to 3-3 on the season while the Golden Lions fell to 2-6 overall with Sunday’s loss.
UAPB had a 2-1 lead until the eighth inning when McNeese’s Jackson Gooch hit a RBI single to score Lloyd.
UAPB picked up its two runs in the third. Designated hitter Mike Wieland hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Dylan Calhoun. Dwayne Hysmith hit a RBI single to left to plate Cody De Mera from third.
McNeese took a 1-0 lead in the second on Matt Henry’s RBI single.
UAPB’s Redmond Floyd (0-1) was credited with the loss after pitching 1 2/3 innings and allowing one run (unearned) on one hit.
Jacob Williams (1-0) earned the victory for McNeese after an inning of work.
UAPB starter Mikey Ramirez went 7 1/3, allowing one run (unearned) on four hits with one walk and seven strikeouts.
Calhoun finished the game with two hits, a run scored, a stolen base and a walk. Wieland was 0 for 2 with a RBI. Hysmith had a stolen base, a walk, a hit and a RBI.
UAPB will face the University of Mississippi on Wednesday beginning a 4 p.m. The Golden Lions will return home on March 2 for a three-game series with Southern University.
