PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas — The Arkansas-Pine Bluff softball team swept Prairie View A&M in a three-game Southwestern Athletic Conference series after winning 9-7 and 13-3 in a doubleheader on Saturday.
In Game 1, UAPB scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning to rally from a three-run deficit.
Jasmine Hardwrick hit a grand slam to score Lacie Sutterfield, who walked, Alexsis McCain, who doubled, and Nikole Frazier, who was intentionally walked to load the bases with two outs. Tiressa Jacobs also hit a home run in the inning.
Hardwrick finished the game 1 for 4 with a run and four RBIs. Heather Leigh (1-12) pitched a complete game for UAPB and allowed seven runs (all earned) on eight hits with six walks and five strikeouts.
Cally Falls (9-9) was tagged with the loss after pitching a complete game for Prairie View. She allowed nine runs (all earned) on nine hits with three walks and two strikeouts.
UAPB (14-25, 12-5 SWAC) scored two runs in the third and two in the fourth. Prairie View A&M (17-17, 7-7) scored five runs in the second and two in fifth.
Leigh was also 1 for 4 at the plate with two RBIs and a run scored. Delya Jackson was 2 for 4 with a run scored and Emilee Gwyn was 2 for 4 with two runs for the Lady Lions.
In Game 2, UAPB won 13-3 in five innings after scoring eight runs in the fourth and five in the second. The Lady Lions had 11 hits in the game.
Sutterfield (13-10) was credited with the win after pitching five innings and allowing three runs (all earned) on seven hits with seven strikeouts and one walk. Sarina Rios (3-1) was tagged with the loss after just two innings of work. She allowed five runs (four earned) on five hits with one walk and one strikeout.
Sutterfield was also 2 for 4 with two runs and one RBI in the second game. Frazier was 2 for 3 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Hardwrick was 2 for 2 with two runs and one RBI. Jacobs was 2 for 3 with a run and three RBIs.
UAPB, which is second to Texas Southern (30-13, 14-1 SWAC) in Western Division standings, is scheduled to play at St. Gregory’s University in Shawnee, Okla., at 4 p.m. Friday.
UAPB 4, Prairie View A&M 2 (Fri.)

Sutterfield earned the win after pitching a complete game and allowing two runs (both earned) on 11 hits with four strikeouts.
Falls was tagged with the loss for Prairie View after allowing four runs (all earned) on nine hits in seven innings of work. She also struck out four batters.
UAPB also scored a run in second inning. Prairie View scored a run in the first and fifth innings.
Sutterfield led UAPB with two hits and a run scored. Frazier finished 1 for 3 with a run and three RBIs. McCain was 2 for 4 with two runs scored.
