BATON ROUGE, La. — The Arkansas-Pine Bluff Lady Lions lost their second straight conference game after falling to Southern 67-44 Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Lions and Southern (5-11, 4-1 GAC) were tied after the first media timeout, but the Lady Jaguars pushed their lead to 20-8 and would lead 24-13 at the half.
UAPB’s (5-9, 1-3 GAC) only leads were early in the first half when Lakendra Marsh nailed a three-pointer to give the Lady Lions a 3-2 lead and when Chi Chi Okwumabua stole a ball and Cassidy Wright made a three to give UAPB a 6-4 advantage.
Lechell Rush of Southern led all scorers with 20 points and 17 rebounds on 8-of-13 shooting. The Lady Jags outrebounded the Lady Lions 63-41.
Cassidy Wright led the Lady Lions with 14 points. Marsh chipped in with eight.
UAPB shot a miserable 13 percent (4 of 29) from the floor in the first half. The Lady Lions finished the game 23 percent after shooting 10 of 31 from the floor in the second half.
UAPB was 6 of 20 from the three-point arch and 10 of 17 from the free-throw line.
Southern was 17 of 35 from the floor in the second half. The Lady Jaguars made 4 of 9 from the three-point range and were 11 of 22 from the free throw line.
UAPB will play at Alcorn State on Tuesday beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Alcorn State is currently 1-13 and 1-4 in conference. Its only win of the season was against Grambling State on Tuesday.
