Arkansas-Pine Bluff football coach Monte Coleman confirmed Tuesday he has a copy of his contract renewal with the school, but it has not yet been signed.
“He has a document in hand,” athletic director Lonza Hardy Jr. said. “He’s looking over the contract right now, verifying that everything in the contract is what he was looking for before he signs it.”
Coleman said the sides are still negotiating.
“We’re just making sure it is comfortable for both ends, that the university is happy and I’m happy. I wouldn’t say there’s a hang-up, it’s all part of negotiations.”
Coleman’s original five-year head coaching contract with the school expired in December, but he has continued to work at the school while negotiating a new deal. Both sides had hoped a deal would be finalized earlier.
Neither Hardy nor Coleman would go into details of the proposed contract. Coleman said it could be “a few days or a few weeks” before the contract is signed.
Coleman is 29-27 as the Golden Lions’ head coach. He’s coming off the school’s first 10-win season and its first outright SWAC championship.
