Bulldogs pin Lady Lions at SWAC Round-Up


LONGVIEW, Texas — Arkansas-Pine Bluff gave up seven runs in the first two innings and fell 10-4 to Alabama A&M on Saturday at the SWAC Round-Up inter-division softball games.

UAPB (2-17, 1-1 SWAC) had eight hits to Alabama A&M’s seven and committed only one error to the Bulldogs’ three, but the Lady Lions didn’t get on the board until the third inning. Heather Leigh and Kelsey Ridgeway each had two hits for UAPB.

Alexsis McCain suffered the loss after giving up seven earned runs on four hits and one walk in the first two innings. Leigh worked the other four innings.

UAPB’s second game of the day against Jackson State was postponed with the Lady Lions leading 1-0 at the bottom of the third inning.

Also in softball, Arkansas-Monticello’s Saturday doubleheader against Ouachita Baptist was rained out. Today’s doubleheader is tentatively scheduled for 1 p.m. in Monticello.
