UAM men lose to Southern Arkansas, women win


MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The UAM Boll Weevils dropped a 76-73 decision to the Southern Arkansas Muleriders on Monday.

UAM (14-3, 4-2 GAC) shot only 33 percent from the floor in the first half allowing Southern Arkansas (11-7, 4-2 GAC) to build up as high as a 12-point lead.

The Muleriders led by as many as 16 points in the second half.

UAM pulled to within three, 58-55, with 9:30 remaining in the game. Out of the break L.A. Farmer hit a pair of free throws to bring the deficit down to a single point.

UAM had time for one final push as Kori Forge hit a put-back with 1:00 minute remaining to cut the deficit back down to a single possession, 76-73. The Muleriders inbounded the ball and ran the clock down to 23 seconds but failed to score.

Dwayne Bingham pulled in the rebound and moved the ball down the floor where the Weevils got off three separate shots that could have tied the game and sent it into overtime, but two rimmed out and the final shot fell short.

Ricardo Hall and Forge paced the Weevils with 17 points each. Sergio Crowe and L.A. Farmer scored 16 and 15 points, respectively. A.J. Calhoun grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds for the Weevils.

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Southern Arkansas let an eight-point second half lead slip away and Arkansas-Monticello hit six free throws in the final 40 seconds to steal a 73-68 win Monday in Great American Conference play at the W.T. Watson Athletic Center.

The Lady Muleriders (1-15, 1-5 GAC) dropped their second straight game, while the Cotton Blossoms (5-11, 1-5 GAC) snapped a seven-game losing skid in picking up their first league victory.

Senior guard Alex Hart played all 40 minutes in leading UAM with 21 points and grabbed five rebounds.

The loss concluded a three-game home stand for the Lady Muleriders. They travel Thursday to Arkadelphia for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off with Henderson State (11-5, 4-2 GAC).
