Southeastern drops UAM in tourney

BENTONVILLE — The Arkansas-Monticello softball team fell into the loser’s bracket of the Great American Conference tournament with a 5-3 loss to No. 1 seed Southeastern Oklahoma State in the late hours of Thursday evening.

UAM (29-24) scored its three runs on back-to-back doubles in the top of the fourth inning from sophomore Sydney Tipton and freshman Cassidy Wilson.

Senior Randa Perry (12-12) suffered the loss after allowing five runs (two earned) off eight hits with three strikeouts and one walk in a complete game-effot. Mindy McElroy (19-2) earned the win for Southeastern (42-7) in relief, holding UAM scoreless on just one hit with four strikeouts in the final 3 1/3 innings.

Expected bad weather in the Bentonville area forced the postponement of Friday’s games. The tournament is scheduled to resume today at 11 a.m., when UAM faces Ouachita Baptist.

East Central faces Southern Arkansas at 1 p.m. Southeastern and Harding will play at 3 p.m. for spot in the title game.

Two more loser’s bracket games will follow at 5 and 7 p.m. The title game will now be played at noon on Sunday with the “if necessary” game slated for 2 p.m.
