MONTICELLO — Great American Conference coaches predict Arkansas-Monticello to finish ninth in the football standings again this year.
UAM finished ahead of conference newcomers Northwestern Oklahoma State and Southern Nazarene (Okla.) in the preseason coaches’ poll, released Monday by the league office. NWOSU and SNU were provisional members of the GAC in 2012 and were not eligible to compete for the championship.
Coming off an undefeated regular season, Henderson State is picked to repeat as GAC champion. The Reddies, ranked 13th in the American Football Coaches Association preseason poll, received 10 of the 11 first-place votes.
Southern Arkansas earned the other first-place vote and is predicted to finish second. Harding, which like Henderson State qualified for the NCAA Division II playoffs in 2012, is picked third, followed by Ouachita Baptist, East Central (Okla.), Southeastern Oklahoma State, Southwestern Oklahoma State, Arkansas Tech, UAM, NWOSU and Southern Nazarene.
UAM will hold its Athletics Media Day from 2-5 p.m. Friday at Ryburn Automotive Superstore, located on Highway 425 in Monticello. The event is open to the public.
Coaches and student-athletes from all of UAM’s athletic teams, as well as cheerleaders and the Boll Weevil mascot will be on hand for the event. Fans are invited to visit with representatives of the athletic department about the upcoming sports seasons. There also will be giveaways and photo opportunities.
KHBM-FM 93.7 will broadcast the event live.
