ARKADELPHIA — A three-hit, three run second inning got Arkansas-Monticello going Tuesday, as the Boll Weevils took a 4-2 victory over Ouachita Baptist on Tuesday.
UAM (26-14) hammered out 10 hits to OBU’s four and did not commit an error. Four Boll Weevils each had two hits.
D’Marco Poindexter singled up the middle for two runs in the second inning to give UAM the early lead. Tyler Caruthers scored on a passed ball in the inning to make it 3-0.
The Tigers (17-18-1) cut into the lead with a run each in the second and fourth innings, but Chad Miller provided the insurance run on an eighth-inning flyout.
Ben Agredano, Danny Loya, T.J. Cox and Chad Miller each had two hits to lead the Weevils. Zach McKnight (5-1) held the Tigers to three hits in four innings to pick up the win, while Kade Garlington worked five innings and allowed just one hit for the save.
UAM will host Southern Nazarene (Okla.) in a single game at 2 p.m. Friday and a doubleheader starting at noon Saturday.
