MONTICELLO — The Arkansas-Monticello football team suffered a 52-7 loss to Harding on Saturday at home in the first Great American Conference game of the season.
UAM (1-2, 0-1 GAC) allowed Harding (2-0, 1-0 GAC) to rack up a total of 368 rushing yards and an average of 6.7 yard per carry. The Boll Weevils managed 274 yards of total offense, 188 coming through the passing game.
The Bisons opened the scoring with a 50-yard touchdown run by Colton Kamper with 11:51 remaining in the first quarter, followed by a seven-yard scoring run by Jason Oller at the 9:59 mark of the opening quarter.
HU then went to the air for its next score on an 81-yard connection from Kelvin Martin to Donatella Luckett with 4:55 remaining in the first quarter to put the Bison up 21-0. HU went back to the ground for its next score, a one-yard plunge by Romo Westbrook at the 1:10 mark of the first quarter to finalize the scoring for the opening 15 minutes.
HU’s John Gay gave the Bisons a 31-0 lead at the 9:27 mark of the second quarter with a 20-yard field goal.
UAM found the end zone for the only time of the game at the 6:48 mark of the second quarter on a three-yard touchdown run from senior quarterback Hunter Leppert to cap an eight-play, 65-yard drive.
HU’s 21-point third quarter included an eight-yard scoring run by Westbrook at the 12:43 mark, a 50-yard touchdown run by Martin at the 3:44 mark and a five-yard scoring run by Westbrook at the 2:33 mark.
UAM continues GAC action next Saturday on the road against East Central University. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. in Ada, Okla.
