Weevils swept by Tigers in GAC play

ADA, Okla. – The UAM baseball team dropped a pair of GAC games today at East Central, 8-4 and 8-3.

UAM (11-9, 1-4 GAC) jumped out with a run in the top of the first. Taylor Eaves got a leadoff single to left and came home when Hunter Allday drove a single to center four batters down the order. Unfortunately, the Tigers (14-11, 3-2 GAC) came right back with three in the second to take control of the game.

They added one in the third and then four in the fourth to salt the game away, making the two UAM runs in the seventh and one in the eighth all but useless, winning 8-4. Wayne Hawkins had two RBI in the game to pace the Weevils on two hits. Taylor Eaves went 4-for-5 at the plate, scoring two in the game.

Kenny Marshall (4-1) took the loss in 3.2 innings of work, allowing seven runs on five hits with two walks and four strikeouts.

Game two went much the same way, with ECU putting up two four-run innings in the second and sixth to bury the Weevils from the beginning. UAM got their three runs with two in the sixth and one in the top of the seventh.

Josh Chism drove in the two runs in the sixth with a double down the left field line that scored Eaves and Hawkins. Tyler Walker tacked on the third run with a solo shot over the left field fence in the seventh to round out the scoring for the Weevils on the day.

Russell Watts (1-3) got the loss for UAM, allowing four runs on five hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

UAM will try to prevent the series sweep tomorrow in the finale at noon.
