MONTICELLO — The Arkansas-Monticello baseball team dropped an afternoon doubleheader to the visiting Lyon Scots, 6-3 and 3-0.
The only Weevil (10-4) runs of the day came in the bottom of the first in game one. T.J. Cox got a single to left that drove in Josh Chism and Wayne Hawkins. He advanced to third two batters later and came home on a wild pitch from the Scot hurler.
After that, the offense went to sleep as the Weevils played 13 straight innings without a run. The Weevils finished game one with six hits and two errors. Game two saw three UAM hits and three errors. Lyon (15-4) took advantage of the sluggish performance with 11 hits in game one and five more in the second with just three errors in the first game.
Josh Chism took the loss in game one, allowing five runs in six innings off nine hits and one walk, striking out nine. Jesse Barnes got the loss in game two, giving up one run on three hits with two walks and five strikeouts.
UAM will return to action this Saturday and Sunday afternoon as they host the Harding Bisons in the Great American Conference opener for both squads. Play begins both days at noon at Weevil Field.
