RUSSELLVILLE — Rison’s Devonta Jones at 132 pounds and Quanterio Heath at 198 won state 3A titles in their respective weight classes Saturday at the state high school weightlifting championships at Russellville High School.
Jones and Heath helped the Wildcats finish with 4,835 pounds, taking second place behind Fountain Lake with 4,910 in the 3A team standings. The teams were second and third behind 5A champion Wynne (4,955) in overall standings.
“I’m just very proud of them,” Rison coach Justin Crain said. “They worked hard in the weight room. We had to wake up at 4:30 a.m. to take a 2 ½-hour ride to here.”
Heath was an all-around standout for the Wildcats’ football team that won the 6-3A Conference championship and reached the state quarterfinals. He signed a letter of intent with Arkansas State in February.
