White Hall wins district championship


WHITE HALL — After losing the first game 10-0, White Hall scored a run in the bottom of the sixth to beat Pine Bluff Western 1-0 in the 12-year-old Little League District 3 championship game on Monday.

Both teams advance to the state tournament, which starts on Friday at White Hall. White Hall will receive a first-round bye.

Lane Hartsfield struck out to start the bottom of the sixth, but reached first base on a dropped third strike. Bryce Kincaid followed with a bunt single and Hartsfield went all the way to third base. Zac Harbison drove in the winning run with an RBI single to center field.

Hartsfield got the win as he pitched six innings of shutout ball.

The second game was played after Pine Bluff Western beat White Hall 10-0 in five innings in the first game, which was started on Saturday. The two teams played three innings with Pine Bluff leading 2-0 before the game was delayed due to rain and later postponed until Monday.

Pine Bluff took a 2-0 lead in the second inning and led 6-0 going into the fifth inning before scoring four more runs. JaKobi Jackson pitched all five innings for the win for Pine Bluff.

Junior Legion State

Texarkana 9, Sheridan 8

SHERIDAN — Texarkana scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to eliminate Sheridan from the Junior American Legion state tournament with a 9-8 win.

Texarkana, which plays Jonesboro Fat City for the championship at 4:30 p.m. today, trailed 5-1 going into the bottom of the fifth before scoring two runs each in the fifth and sixth and the four-run output in the seventh.

Sheridan committed five errors in the loss as Texarkana only had five hits in the game compared to 11 for Sheridan.

Chase Davis had a home run for Sheridan and Tad Daggett drove in two runs. Daggett also started the game, but did not factor in the final decision.

On Sunday, Sheridan held Jacksonville to one hit in a 13-1 five-inning win to advance to Monday’s game against Texarkana.

Garrett Williams pitched a complete game for Sheridan. Cole Bradford drove in four runs for Sheridan.

AAA Legion

Sheridan 4-3, Texarkana 2-5

TEXARKANA — The Sheridan AAA Legion team split a doubleheader with Texarkana on Monday. Sheridan won the first game 4-2 before Texarkana took the second 5-3.

The games were scheduled for Sunday, but were moved to Monday due to rain in Texarkana.

Zack Perkins was the winning pitcher for Sheridan in the first game. Grady Finley gave up just three earned runs in the second game, but took the loss.

Sheridan plays at 7 p.m. on Friday in Texarkana in the opening round of the Zone 4 Tournament. Sheridan is the No. 3 seed based on losing a tiebreaker.

Babe Ruth 15s State

Crossett 14, White Hall 8

LONOKE — White Hall lost to Crossett 14-8 on Monday and was eliminated from the Babe Ruth 15-year-old state tournament.

No stats were available from the game.

On Sunday, Hamburg gave White Hall its first loss with a 13-12 win.
