Lady Cats take 2 of 3
HEBER SPRINGS — Watson Chapel won two of three games in the Heber Springs softball tournament on Saturday, beating Heber Springs 5-4 and Morrilton 2-0 before dropping the final game to Jonesboro 8-7 in eight innings.
Maegan Greer struck out 10 in a complete-game effort in the circle against Heber Springs. Natalie Johnson paced the Lady Cats at the plate with a solo home run, Sydney Crossett doubled and Morgan Carter drove in two with a single.
Against Morrilton, Lexie Downing took a no-hitter into the sixth inning as the Lady Cats blanked the Lady Devil Dogs. Downing fanned 13 and worked around four walks and an error, facing 26 total batters in the win.
Johnson was 3 for 3 and scored a run, Paige Topping was 1 for 3 with an RBI and Megan Moore drove in a run with a single.
The Lady Cats couldn’t hang on to a 7-6 advantage against Jonesboro in the bottom of the seventh inning and failed to score in the international-rules eighth to fall to 13-5 overall.
Greer allowed six hits and six runs in four innings and Downing surrendered the final two in relief.
Downing was 2 for 3 with a double, Crossett was 2 for 4 and scored twice, Johnson was 3 for 5, Moore 2 for 4 and Greer 2 for 2 as Watson Chapel outhit Jonesboro 11-8.
