Texarkana downs Sheridan in title game

SHERIDAN — Texarkana beat Sheridan 8-3 in the American Legion Zone 4 Junior tournament championship early Wednesday morning.

The game did not start until 11 p.m. on Tuesday due to a three-hour rain delay before Sheridan’s game against Genoa.

Sheridan and Texarkana were already qualified for the state tournament, which starts at noon Friday in Sheridan. Because it is hosting the tournament, Sheridan was automatically qualified for the state tournament. Genoa also earned a spot in the state tournament from Zone 4.

Texarkana responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning with a bases loaded walk and a bunt single. Texarkana added two more runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth for an 8-1 lead.

Sheridan scored two runs in the seventh as Eggburn scored on a wild pitch and John Strange came across on a sacrifice fly by Evan Thompson.

Garrett Williams took the loss as he pitched 5 2/3 innings and allowing eight runs on five hits, walked six and hit three batters.
