Lady Bobcats jump on Lady Owls early

DUMAS — The Dumas softball team got out to a big lead on McGehee early and went on to claim a 10-4 victory on Monday. The game was stopped due to rain, but the break only lasted 10 minutes.

Dumas (6-2, 5-2 in 8-3A) scored three runs in the first inning, one in the third and one in the fourth before McGehee (3-3 in 8-3A) got on the board with a run in the fourth.

The Lady Owls added two more runs in the top of the fifth inning to trail 5-3, but Dumas scored three runs in the fifth and two in the sixth to cap its scoring. McGehee did get another run in the sixth.

Kenslee Jones got the win as she went five innings and struck out five. Brook Patton pitched the final two innings and struck out five.

A’Diamond Johnson hit a two-run home run in the first inning and scored four times. Patton hit three doubles and scored a run and Sabra Creighton hit an inside-the-park home run.

Dumas plays at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at home against Star City.


Smackover 14, Rison 0

RISON — Smackover held Rison to one hit in a 14-0 win on Monday.

Nick Hesley had Rison’s (3-7, 1-1 in 8-3A) and Josh Cook took the loss as he went three innings against Smackover (2-1 in the 8-3A).

Rison plays at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at home against Poyen.


Three baseball games — Fordyce at Drew Central, Dollarway at Star City and McGehee at Dumas — were all rained out on Monday.

No make-up date has been set for all three of the games, which were all conference games.
