WH advances in Babe Ruth

LONOKE — Conner Freeman went 3 for 4 in leading White Hall a 6-4 victory over Brinkley on Saturday in the Babe Ruth 15-year-old state tournament.

White Hall advanced to today’s winners’ bracket semifinal against Hamburg, which defeated host Lonoke on Friday. White Hall and Hamburg will play at 8 p.m., following Pine Bluff Northern vs. Hot Spring County at 5:30 p.m.

Daniel Sprinkle took the mound in the fourth inning and earned the victory for White Hall. Daniel Gray worked the first three innings, with Jeffrey Jones throwing in the fourth.

Justin Archer and Kirk Baugh each doubled for White Hall.

Today’s winners’ bracket victors will meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday.


PBNB 7, HS Village 2

BRYANT — Tyler Zuber struck out 14, walked two, gave up three hits and scored two runs in a complete-game pitching victory over Hot Springs Village in the AA American Legion state tournament.

PBNB will play Hot Springs Lakeside at 4:30 p.m. today. Win or lose, its next game in the tournament will be next Saturday.


Fat City 13, Sheridan 0 (Fri.)

SHERIDAN — Fat City held Sheridan to one hit late Friday night, sending Sheridan to the losers’ bracket of the Junior American Legion state tournament.

Chase Davis hit a triple in the fourth inning for Sheridan’s hit. Keaton Ramsey took the loss after not allowing a hit through three innings. He led off the fourth by walking a batter and giving up a hit.

Sheridan 6, Cabot 2

John Strange picked up the win for Sheridan, surrendering seven hits and striking out two in 6 1/3 innings.

Sheridan scored four runs in the top of the first and added a pair in the third. Cabot scored its two runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Paul Lucas paced the Jackets with three hits while Tadd Daggett singled and tripled and Cole Bradford collected two hits.

In other Saturday games, Genoa beat Jonesboro Armor 5-2, Texarkana blasted Jacksonville 14-1 and Jonesboro Fat City scored a run in the top of the seventh to slip past Paragould 6-5.


American-Eastern 34, St. Francis County 21

PIGGOTT — Pine Bluff’s American-Eastern team needed 3 1/2 hours to finish off St. Francis County in an offensive marathon and even the 9- and 10-year-old state tournament at one victory apiece.

The third and deciding game is scheduled for 10 a.m. today. St. Francis won Friday.

Mallory Smith batted 5 for 6 and Je’la Gray went 4 for 5 to lead American-Eastern. McKenzie Allmond pitched the victory with Smith relieving.
