Road Trip: Razorbacks Head Out For Auburn, SEC Tourney

FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas first baseman Dominic Ficociello said the juniors on the Razorbacks’ roster have accomplished plenty in their college careers.

They’ve played in NCAA regionals and super regionals. They’ve collected key NCAA Tournament victories. They’ve been to Omaha for the College World Series.

His team’s success in Southeastern Conference play is proving it.

Arkansas Tennis Coach Stepping Down After 26 Seasons

FAYETTEVILLE — The longest tenured coach in the Arkansas athletic department is stepping down at the end of the month.

Arkansas announced that men’s tennis coach Robert Cox will move out of his position after 26 years with the program. Cox has been the Razorbacks’ coach since 1988, amassing a school-record 323 dual match wins during his career.

Arkansas Track Wins Another SEC Championship

FAYETTEVILLE — The Arkansas men's track and field team won another conference crown.

The Razorbacks wrapped up the 2013 SEC Outdoor Championships by outscoring second-place Florida 152.5 to 123 during the four-day meet in Columbia, Mo. It gave the Razorbacks their second SEC straight triple crown (cross country, indoor track and outdoor track) and seventh straight conference title dating back to the 2011 Outdoor Championships.

Arkansas Secures Weekend Series With Senior Day Win

FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas jumped out to a five-run lead in the first inning on Senior Day and the Razorbacks beat Tennessee 10-2 Sunday at Baum Stadium.

Designated hitter Joe Serrano led off with a double for the second game in a row and scored the first run on senior Matt Vinson’s RBI single. The center fielder from Alma scored when the other senior in the batting order, Jacob Mahan, hit an RBI single.

UA Softball Assigned To NCAA’s Norman (Okla.) Regional

FAYETTEVILLEThe Arkansas softball team will travel to Norman, Okla. as a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Arkansas will face Fordham on Friday at 5 p.m.

Arkansas is the No. 2 seed in the Norman Regional and will make its second tournament appearance in as many years. No. 1 Oklahoma is the host team and the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament. Fordham and Marist are the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds in the regional, respectively.

Arkansas Women's Track Carries Lead Into Final Day

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The sixth-ranked Arkansas women’s track and field team is in first place after day three of the 2013 SEC Outdoor Championships.

The Razorbacks have tallied 50 points through eight events. Grace Heymsfield led the Razorbacks’ efforts Saturday with a title run in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, breaking the SEC Championships meet record in the process.

Arkansas Moves Closer To SEC Outdoor Title

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The fifth-ranked Arkansas men’s track team scored in three events Saturday to move into first place at the 2013 SEC Outdoor Championships.

The Razorbacks have scored 57 points through seven events. Among day three’s highlights were a runner-up effort by Stanley Kebenei in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, a 3-4-6-7 finish in the long jump and a lifetime-best performance from Jeff Woods in the javelin.

Women's Golf Qualifies For NCAA Championships

AUBURN, Ala. — The fifth-ranked Arkansas women’s golf team tied for third place at the 2013 NCAA East Regional Championship to qualify for the NCAA Championship in Athens, Ga., May 21-24.

Arkansas finished with a final round 287 to tie for third place with an 864. The tie for third is the program’s best NCAA Regional finish bettering the fourth-place finish two seasons ago. This will be the sixth NCAA Championship team appearance in program history and the third consecutive for the Razorbacks.

Vols Batter Arkansas Staff In Game One Win

There has been one way for opponents to ensure success against the Razorbacks, though. Score five or more runs. Tennessee accomplished it Friday night.

Meeting Helped Hogs Crawl Out Of ‘Tough Spot’

FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas coach Dave Van Horn doesn’t know exactly how long the team meeting lasted. It may have been an hour. It felt like more.

But sitting down to work through his team’s struggles needed to happen no matter how long it took. The Razorbacks had just gotten back from their rough road trip to Nebraska in mid-April and the disappointing results were a sign Arkansas desperately needed to hit the reset button on a season heading south.

Women's Golf Opens NCAA East Regional Play

FAYETTEVILLE — The Arkansas women’s golf team opens play in the NCAA East Regional in Auburn, Ala., today. The three-day tournament will determine which eight teams advance to participate in the NCAA Championships later this month.

The Razorbacks secured the East Regional’s No. 2 seed and will join top-seed Alabama as headliners in the 24-team field. Seven other ranked teams also are in the event. The list includes: No. 8 UCLA, No. 11 North Carolina State, No. 12 Virginia, No. 18 Oklahoma State, No. 20 Tulane, No. 23 Texas and No. 26 Notre Dame.

Arkansas Track Begins SEC Outdoor Run

FAYETTEVILLE — The Arkansas men’s track program has enjoyed plenty of Southeastern Conference success under coach Chris Bucknam, winning six consecutive competitions dating back to the 2011 SEC Outdoor meet.

Bucknam and the Razorbacks would love to see the number climb to seven this week. But Bucknam also sounded a little cautious about the chances after an outdoor season affected by plenty of weather issues.

Home Regional Within Reach For Razorbacks

FAYETTEVILLE — Dave Van Horn doesn’t know if his team is going to be among the 16 selected to host an NCAA Regional later this month.

Arkansas’ coach is confident the Razorbacks are back in the conversation because of their recent performance, though. Specifically, going 5-1 over a two-week stretch has reopened the possibility with two weeks remaining in the regular season.

Baseball: Farris ‘Fine’ After Costly Error; Hogs Enjoy SEC Success

FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas second baseman Jordan Farris made a costly mistake when he booted a ground ball that would’ve resulted in the final out last Saturday.

But Arkansas coach Dave Van Horn said the error at Kentucky doesn’t change his opinion of the freshman as the Razorbacks prepare for their final home series.

QB Mitchell Among Four Players Leaving Football Program

FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas senior Brandon Mitchell said he had no interest in playing anything but quarterback after returning to the position this spring.

Now he’s leaving the Razorbacks in search of another opportunity to be a starter.
