NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. — Wingstop was eliminated from the Dixie Majors World Series by host team North Charleston 5-0 Monday.
Wingstop, whch finished the tournament at 1-2, was paced on offense by Addison Grandy and Jake Smith. Both hitters went 1-for-2 with Smith’s hit being a double. That double was enough to earn Smith the team’s Most Valuable Player award for the game.
Wyatt Daggett took the loss on the mound for the Arkansas representative.
The day before, Wingstop had bounced back from Saturday’s opening game loss to defeat Heartland/Avon Park, Fla., 8-6.
In Sunday’s game, Wingstop allowed five hits to the Florida representative, but needed a double from Jared Turner in the seventh inning to get the win.
Wingstop’s Zach Bradford led the offense going 3-for-4, while Turner finished the game 2-for-3 from the dish. Smith, Daggett, Addison Grandy, Jeffery Jones and Nic Anderson all went 2-for-4.
Anderson, who hit a home run in the game, was named the game’s MVP for Wingstop.
On the mound, Jones picked up the win and Daggett earned the save.
