Three runs in 5th lifts Cannon


WHITE HALL — Cannon scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to rally from a two-run deficit and defeat Optimist 5-4 Monday night at Junior Babe Ruth ball park in White Hall.

With one out, Garrett Blaylock hit a double and scored on a RBI double by Antoine Luster to cut the deficit to 4-3. A single by Jared Chavis tied the game and Chavis was able to advance to second on the play. Chavis scored and give Cannon its first lead of the game when Tyler Moss hit a RBI single. Moss was left stranded at first after a strikeout and a pop up.

Chavis is also credited with the win after pitching four innings of relief. He allowed one run on four hits with a walk and six strikeouts.

Optimist took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first after sending nine batters to the plate thanks to four hits and one walk.

An error and a single by Scott Taylor put two runners on to begin the game. A single by Jackobi Jackson scored the game’s first run and an RBI ground-out by Blake Phillips gave Optimist a 2-0 lead.

Andrew Morgan followed with a RBI single to take a three-run lead.

Optimist loaded the bases but the runners were left stranded after a strikeout and a groundout.

Jackson hit a solo home run in the top of the third to give Optimist a 4-1 lead. Jackson finished the game 2 for 3 with two runs scored and two RBIs.

Jackson takes the loss after pitching two innings and allowing three runs on four hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Cannon got on the board in the bottom of the second thanks to a RBI single by Garrett Reed, which plated Moss. Reed finished the game 1 for 1 with two walks and one RBI.

Optimist scored again in the bottom of the third on a RBI single by Chavis to plate Blaylock from second. Chavis finished the game 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a run scored.

For Optimist, Arron Frazier started the game and pitched four innings, allowing two runs on five hits with one walk and six strikeouts.

Frazier was also 2 for 3 at the plate.

For Cannon, Bailey Smith started the game and pitched just two innings. He gave up four runs on four hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

Smith had a single and a walk in the game.

The game was called due to the time limit in the bottom of the sixth inning. Cannon had two runners on and just one out.
