STUTTGART – Tyler Luster ran for four touchdowns to help spark the Stuttgart Ricebirds (11-1) to a 54-0 second-round Class 4A state playoff win over Dardanelle here Friday night.
Luster scored his first touchdown on a 6-yard run just over four minutes into the game. Marco Lara’s first of six point-after kicks gave the Ricebirds a 7-0 lead. In the first minute of the second period, Dontrell Brown increased Stuttgart’s lead to 14-0 with a 3-yard touchdown run.
Luster registered his second touchdown on a 12-yard run with 6:47 remaining in the period. The conversion try failed, leaving the score at 20-0. Just over a minute later, Courtney Carroll returned a Dardanelle punt 60 yards for a touchdown that lifted Stuttgart to 26-0.
The Ricebirds tallied two touchdowns within 9 seconds in the final minute of the first half. Luster scored on a 2-yard run and Brown then threw a 19-yard scoring pass to Carroll, giving Stuttgart a 40-0 command at intermission.
Luster increased the spread to 47-0 with a 33-yard touchdown run with 8:14 left in the third quarter. The Ricebirds capped their scoring with a 4-yard touchdown run by P.J. Johnson with 2:40 to play.
The Ricebirds will host Warren (9-3) in a quarterfinal match next week.
