SHERIDAN — Simmons responded after a solo home run by the Little Rock Diamondbacks in the third inning and started an offensive outburst that led to an 11-5 victory Friday in the second day of the Peoples Bank Wood Bat Classic.
Simmons earned the fourth seed for bracket play and will play No. 5 Sheridan at 12:30 p.m. today.
Both teams scored three runs in the first inning. Nick Hefley’s double and Garrett Dedman’s two-run single made up the Pine Bluff American Legion team’s scoring that inning.
In the bottom of the third, Dedman hit a double for two runs to give Simmons the lead. In the fourth, an error on a Justin Dardenne grounder with two outs resulted in two more runs.
It became 11-5 in the fifth after Jaylen Jackson (double), Dalton Barker (single), Josh Dardenne (single) and Nick Hefley (sacrifice fly) each drove in a run.
Josh Dardenne, Hefley, Dedman and Barker each had two hits for Simmons. Hefley scored three times.

Sheridan added four runs in the third: two on a Tad Daggett single, one on a Wyatt Daggett sac fly and another on an overthrow from the outfield on the same play. Wyatt Daggett hit an RBI single in the fifth.
