Simmons advances to semifinals

SHERIDAN — Justin Dardenne threw a no-hitter and Simmons defeated Sheridan 2-0 to advance to the semifinals of the People’s Bank Wood Bat Classic.

Dardenne struck out four and walked one in seven innings of work. He also finished the game 2 for 3 with a run scored.

Simmons scored both runs in the fourth inning.

Dardenne led off with a double and scored on V.J. Dickson’s dropped fly ball in center field. Dickson made it to third on the play.

After Taylor Stinton was hit by a pitch, Dickson was able to scored on a delayed steal to give Simmons the 2-0 lead.

Simmons will play the winner of Texarkana and Cabot today at 1:30 p.m. If Simmons win, they will advance to the championship game at 6:30 p.m.

PB Relyance 2

SHERIDAN — Jacksonville scored two runs in the third inning to secure a 5-2 win over Pine Bluff Relyance on Saturday in the People’s Bank Wood Bat Classic.

Antone Luster pitched 3 1/3 for Relyance and Hunter Hale closed out the game. Relyance scored a run in the first when Aaron Johnson — who led with a single — scored on a sacrifice fly.

Relyance also scored a run in the second. Jake Green doubled with one out and scored on an error at shortstop that allon Johnson to reach.

Jacksonville will face the North Little Rock Colts at 4 p.m. in the semifinals.
