Relyance shuts door on North Little Rock AA team

SHERIDAN — Relyance Bank recovered from a 21-13 loss to Cabot Centennial that open the Peoples Bank Wood Bat Classic and kept the North Little Rock Colts AA team off the scoreboard.

Relyance scored four of its runs in the third inning of a 6-0 victory Thursday. Tyler Zuber, who retired batters in order in the first two innings and struck out three, also had a single for the Pine Bluff AA American Legion team.

The win was highlighted by Kirk Baugh’s three-run home run in that big third inning.

Relyance and North Little Rock await tournament play, which begins Saturday, in the Classic.

A late charge by the Yellowjackets came up just short Thursday night after Cabot took a 7-0 lead with the help of a six-run second inning.

Four of Cabot’s six hits came in that inning, along with two hit batsmen and an error that advanced runners. From there, Sheridan starter Wyatt Daggett allowed three baserunners in a complete-game loss.

Davis hit his third double of the game in the sixth to score two runs and pull the Jackets within two runs. Sheridan had runners on first and third bases with one out in the seventh, but back-to-back strikeouts ended the game.

Cabot Centennial 21, Relyance 13 (Wed.)

Relyance scored six runs in the third to tie the game at 8 and four in the fifth to knot it at 12, but Cabot Centennial pulled away from there to open the tournament with the win.
