PB Braves strike early in win over England

NORTH LITTLE ROCK — The Pine Bluff Braves jumped on the England All-Stars early and held off a late rally in their 7-4 win Sunday at the Police Athletic League Complex.

The Braves scored four runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back.

In the frame, Chase Smith drove in Corey McCoy and Deonta Howard, Winfred Smith drove in Chase Smith, and Nic Anderson drove in Earl White Jr.

The All-Stars countered with two runs in the second to cut the deficit in half, but the Braves answered with three runs in the fifth to put the game out of reach.

In the fifth, Pine Bluff starting pitcher Terrance Davis led off with a hit to left and scored on a double by McCoy. Also in the frame, Ty Houser drew a walk and came in to score on a hit by Howard.

Davis gave up two runs on two hits with three strikeouts in four innings.

Houser pitched the final five innings for Pine Bluff.

He gave up two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning. Houser gave up five hits in his outing to go with six strikeouts.

The Braves will open their fall season against the Clinton Cardinals at 1 p.m. Sept. 8 in Union Chapel. The game is part of the A.L. Criswell single elimination tournament.
