PB Braves pound Union Chapel 19-5


UNION CHAPEL — The Pine Bluff Braves’ Corey McCoy and Deonta Howard put on a hitting clinic for the Union Chapel Travelers on Sunday.

The Braves scored multiple runs in all but one inning on their way to a 19-5 road win.

Pine Bluff scored three runs in the first, five runs in the second, two runs in the fourth, four runs in the fifth, two runs in the sixth and three in the seventh.

Union Chapel pushed across one run in the first, two in the third and two in the sixth.

According to player/manager Winfred Smith, McCoy and Howard both had three-run home runs, five RBI and four runs scored.

McCoy finished 4-for-5 and fell a triple shy of the cycle finishing with a single, two doubles and the three-run homer.

Pine Bluff’s Michael Newby had a solid game on the mound and at the dish. He struck out nine, gave up four hits and three runs in five innings, while driving in two runs himself.

The Braves’ Chase Smith went 2-for-3 and scored four times, Derrick Houser hit a solo home run and Nic Anderson added two RBI in the win.

The Braves will take on the England All-Stars at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the Police Athletic League Complex in North Little Rock.

England will look to avenge a 6-1 loss to Pine Bluff suffered on July 7.
