DETROIT — Torii Hunter ended a 43-day home run drought with the 299th of his career Sunday in the Detroit Tigers’ 6-1 victory over the Minnesota Twins.
Hunter launched a solo shot in the first inning for his first home run since April 13, ending the third-longest stretch without a homer in his career, according to MLB.com. The Pine Bluff High alumnus was 1 for 4 with his 23rd RBI of the season and was left on base twice.
Max Scherzer allowed three hits and struck out six in six innings to improve to 7-0 on the season.
Hunter did not belt homer No. 300 Monday, but went 2 for 4 with a double and a run scored in a 6-5 home victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates. Each team had 10 hits.
