Fisher out at least three games
DALLAS — Mavericks guard Derek Fisher, a Little Rock Parkview and Arkansas-Little Rock graduate, missed the first of at least three games Thursday with a strained right patellar tendon, according to the team’s website.
Fisher suffered the injury in his right knee during Tuesday’s victory over the Philadelphia 76ers.
He has started in all nine of his appearances with Dallas since signing as a free agent earlier this season, averaging 8.6 points and 3.6 assists in 25.4 minutes per game.
Watkins records 500th rebound in UA blowout
FAYETTEVILLE — Senior Sarah Watkins became the 21st Arkansas women’s basketball player to reach 500 rebounds Wednesday night, helping the Razorbacks beat Mississippi Valley State 99-42.
Quistelle Williams scored a career-high 18 points to lead Arkansas (10-1), hitting 10 points in the game’s first 5 minutes. Calli Berna added 11 points.
Report: Pagano cleared to return as Colts coach
INDIANAPOLIS — Colts head coach Chuck Pagano has been medically cleared to return to work, the Indianapolis Star reported, but he is not expected to resume his full responsibilities until Monday.
Pagano was diagnosed with leukemia Sept. 25 and was placed on indefinite leave. Bruce Arians has served as head coach in the interim.
NHL cuts games through Jan. 14
NEW YORK — The National Hockey League on Thursday announced the cancellation of games through Jan. 14, as no collective bargaining agreement between the league and the players’ association has been struck.
The NHL has lost 625 regular season games — just more than half the season — dating back to Oct. 11.
