6A state championship tickets available
Advance tickets for the 6A state football championship game between Pine Bluff and Greenwood will go on sale at 8 this morning at Pine Bluff High School’s Dunaway Field House and continue until 11 a.m. Friday.
The game is at noon Saturday at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock. Ticket prices are $7 for adults and $6 for students.
Run/walk for Towers Sat.
The Star City High School cross country team, SCHS EAST Lab, Cane Creek State Park and other community sponsors are organizing a benefit run/walk for Star City football player Zack Towers to be held at 9 a.m. Saturday at Cane Creek State Park.
Towers suffered a head injury during a game earlier this month and has since been in the hospital. Registration is $10 per person, and all money goes to the Towers family.
Registration forms can be picked up at Star City High School, Civic Center or most Star City businesses, or obtained online by emailing Geoff.firstname.lastname@example.org.
Robey downs Stuttgart
STUTTGART — Kyron Crutchfield scored 14 points to lead Jack Robey to a 38-24 win over Stuttgart in junior high boys basketball Monday.
Marquis Smith added seven points for Robey (5-3), which will host Dollarway on Thursday.
Broyles Award nominees down to 5 finalists
LITTLE ROCK — Three Southeastern Conference assistant coaches are among five finalists for the Broyles Award, which honors the top assistant football coach in the country.
Mike Bobo of Georgia and Kliff Kingsbury of Texas A&M are the two offensive coordinators selected to be finalists. The other three are defensive coordinators: Dan Quinn of Florida, Bob Diaco of Notre Dame and Derek Mason of Stanford.
The winner will be announced at 11:30 a.m. Dec. 4 at the Peabody Hotel in Little Rock.
Peak leads UA women with double-double
HONOLULU — Keira Peak scored 24 points and had 10 rebounds Sunday in Arkansas’ 79-67 women’s basketball victory over Oregon.
For her big week, Peak was named SEC Player of the Week. She scored 70 points over three games at the Rainbow Wahine Showdown, where Arkansas went 2-1.
Longoria signs extension with Rays worth $100M
TAMPA BAY — Rays third baseman Evan Longoria signed a six-year extension worth $100 million that could keep him on the team through 2023. The deal includes a club option for 2023.
