Two-man scramble scheduled for Sept. 22-23

The Charles “Curlye” Walters Two-Man Scramble at Jaycee Golf Course will be held Sept. 22-23.

Tee times for both days are 8 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. The cost is $60 per person.

Ricebirds finish game at Valley View with win

JONESBORO — Stuttgart overcame a 12-0 deficit at the end of the first quarter and scored 21 unanswered points on its way to a 34-19 victory Monday night in the continuation of a game postponed by lightning in the area.

Stuttgart (2-0) held Valley View to 62 yards rushing and gained 418 total yards, including 274 on the ground. Delondre Clinton rushed for 100 yards and Dontrell Brown ran for 77 and a touchdown to go with 156 passing yards and two more scores for the Ricebirds.

Waymon Johnson pulled down 97 yards in receptions for Stuttgart. Noah Johns completed 20 of 36 passes for 270 yards to lead Valley View.

Locals to be inducted into Henderson hall

ARKADELPHIA — Former Pine Bluff and Arkansas-Monticello football coach Harold Tilley, former Rison coach Joe Carroll and White Hall basketball great Yvonne Neal will be among seven inductees into the Henderson State Reddie Hall of Honor on Oct. 6.

Arkansas State football coach Gus Malzahn, a punter and receiver in the late 1980s for the Reddies, also will be inducted.

Tilley played three sports at Henderson State from 1953-56 and was an all-conference tight end and defensive end in 1956. He coached for 33 years from the junior high through college levels.

Carroll, a Reddies football player from 1961-64, coached two years at Rison, where he won a state championship. He was an all-conference offensive guard in 1963 and 1964.

Neal made all-conference three times and was a first-teamer in 1985 after averaging 14.1 points per game.

Pine Bluff sweeps doubles from Benton

BENTON — Pine Bluff won all seven of its doubles matches in a high school dual tennis meet against Tuesday, beating Benton 7-3.

Benton’s doubles teams were not available, but Pine Bluff’s Ajia and Kye Richardson won their matches 8-1 and 8-2, Cessily Johnson and Victoria Grady won 8-1 and 8-4, J’marlo Johnson and Michael Roberts won 8-6 and 8-4 and Tre Harris and Xavier Grady won 8-0.

Pine Bluff will host Lake Hamilton on Thursday.

Tennessee State sweep UAPB volleyball team

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee State beat the Arkansas-Pine Bluff volleyball team 25-16, 25-11 and 25-11 on Tuesday. The win snapped a three-match losing streak for Tennessee State.

Arkansas Tech needs four to defeat UAM

MONTICELLO — Arkansas Tech, the defending Great American champion, beat the Arkansas-Monticello volleyball team 25-23, 26-28, 25-22 and 25-22 on Tuesday.

Amy Kleypas led UAM (1-8, 0-1) with 14 kills and added 11 digs. Victoria Bozzo had 12 kills, Amy Bazemore added 20 assists, Jaclyn Trinque had 12 assists and Allison Beardsley had 17 digs.

Ridgway Christian sweeps El Dorado Westside

EL DORADO — The Ridgway Christian volleyball team swept El Dorado Westside on Tuesday by the scores of 25-6, 25-12 and 25-20 to improve to 2-2.

The Ridgway junior high team (2-2) beat El Dorado Westside 25-10 and 25-23.
