CYFL opening ceremonies Saturday
The opening day ceremonies for the Continental Youth Football League will be held starting at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Southeast Middle Schoo, 2001 S. Ohio St.
The CYFL was founded in 1973 and will celebrate its 40th anniversary of providing a youth football program in Jefferson County. This event draws hundreds of families, friends and residents of Pine Bluff and surrounding areas for a ceremony that kicks off the football season.
Admission is $2.
White Hall takes three tennis matches at Drew Central
MONTICELLO — Tyler Sidwell and Aaron Burdine of White Hall won the only boys doubles match to even the score against Drew Central in Thursday’s dual meet.
Sidwell and Burdine defeated Thomas Wilmoth and Ian Taylor 6-1 to knot the team count at 2-2. Wilmoth won two of Drew Central’s singles matches, defeating Garrett Reed 6-4 and Ethan Bridgforth 6-1. Dylan Quickel won the other contest 6-2 over Taylor.
In girls action, Drew Central took three of four matches. Martha Pearce’s 6-3 win over Becca Moss was White Hall’s only girls triumph, but Drew Central won two doubles contests, 6-2 over Loveleen Kaur and Erica Smith and 6-1 over Samantha Barnes and Hannah Johnson.
Allison Eubanks of Drew Central edged Erin Davis 7-6 in the other singles match.
UCA sweeps UAPB
CONWAY — The Arkansas-Pine Bluff volleyball team was swept 3-0 (11-25, 14-25, 13-25) by Central Arkansas Thursday night in the opening match of the UCA-Sears Sugar Bear Invitational.
Whitney Harris had five kills and a block to lead UAPB. Rachel Hornbuckle and Courtney Billups added four kills each, while Jordan Foyer had 13 assists and Courtney Brand had 11 digs.
The Lady Golden Bears continue their three-day trip today with a pair of matches. They will face Texas-Pan American at noon and Louisiana-Monroe at 4 p.m.
