Ridgway physicals scheduled for Thursday

Physical examinations for all boys and girls wishing to participate in a sport at Ridgway Christian School will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the school’s elementary building on Ridgway Road.

Physical forms may be picked up from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday or Thursday morning at the elementary school building. Athletes and parents are asked to complete the forms prior to the physical.

Wilson signs rookie contract with Raiders

FAYETTEVILLE — Former Arkansas quarterback Tyler Wilson has signed his rookie contract with the Oakland Raiders.

Oakland general manager Reggie McKenzie announced Wilson’s signing Tuesday, although the terms of the deal were not available. Wilson was Oakland’s fourth-round draft pick in this past April’s draft.

The Greenwood native will compete with former LSU quarterback Matt Flynn and former Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor for the starting job when Oakland’s training camp opens later this week. Flynn, who signed with the Raiders in the offseason after being the backup to rookie Russell Wilson in Seattle last season, is projected to be Oakland’s starter when the season begins in September.

Wilson played in 37 games with 24 starts during his Arkansas career. He set school records in passing yards (7,765) and completions (593).

Pedroia reportedly locked up for 7 years, $100M

BOSTON — According to a report, the Boston Red Sox have locked up second baseman Dustin Pedroia through the 2021 season.

WEEI is reporting, citing an unnamed baseball source, Pedroia and Red Sox have agreed to a seven-year, $100 million contract that will begin after the 2014 season and include a full no-trade clause.

Pedroia is batting .308 with six homers and 57 RBIs through 100 games this year. He has a career batting average of .303 with 96 homers and 466 RBIs.

He was named the 2007 Rookie of Year after hitting .317 with eight homers and 50 RBIs in his first full season in the league. He won the AL MVP Award a year later thanks to a career-best .326 average with 17 homers and 83 RBIs.

Devils land veteran Jagr

NEWARK, N.J. — The New Jersey Devils made it official on Tuesday and announced the signing of veteran forward Jaromir Jagr.

Terms were not disclosed, but various reports on Monday indicated it to be a one-year contract. The Bergen Record said the deal is worth $2 million in salary with an additional $2 million available in bonuses.

Jagr spent the truncated 2013 season with the Dallas Stars and Boston Bruins. He was acquired by Boston prior to the trade deadline last spring and helped the Bruins to the Stanley Cup Finals with 10 assists in 22 playoff games.

NBC returning to NASCAR in 2015

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — NBC Sports is back with NASCAR, starting in 2015.

Officials from NASCAR and NBC Sports Group announced on Tuesday they have reached a 10-year agreement that grants NBC the exclusive television rights to the final 20 Sprint Cup Series races, the final 19 Nationwide Series events, select NASCAR regional and touring series races and other live content from 2015-2024. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Of NBC Sports Group’s 20 Sprint Cup races, seven will be carried on NBC annually. NBC Sports Network will air 13 of them. The 19-race package for Nationwide includes four on NBC and 15 on NBC Sports Network.

NBC’s coverage of select Chase races in the fall will lead into the network’s “Sunday Night Football.”
