McClinton sinks hole-in-one

John McClinton hit a hole-in-one at Jaycee Golf Course on Sunday. Using a pitching wedge, McClinton made the shot on hole No. 7, which is a par-3 and 116 yards.

It was witnessed by Mark Stephens.

Texas Southern sweeps UAPB

The Arkansas-Pine Bluff softball team managed just two hits as Texas Southern won 5-0 Sunday to sweep the weekend SWAC tournament.

The Lady Tigers (27-12, 10-1 SWAC) scored a run in the second, a run in the third and three fifth inning. Heather Leigh pitched a complete game for the Lady Lions (10-24, 7-4 SWAC) as she allowed five runs (all earned) on nine hits with six walks and two strikeouts.

Kelsey Ridgeway finished the game 1 for 1 with two walks and Tiressa Jacobs was 1 for 2.

Weevils net fourth straight series win

MONTICELLO — Senior Chris Guzman threw a two-hit shutout to lead the Arkansas-Monticello baseball team to a 10-0 win over Southern Nazarene on Sunday to secure the team’s fourth straight Great American Conference series victory.

In seven innings, Guzman (3-1) struck out seven batters with no walks. The Boll Weevils (28-15, 16-10 GAC) scored on a pair of runs in the first and added three more in the second.

Senior Taylor Eaves gave UAM its seventh run-rule victory of the season with a two-run double down the right field line in the bottom of the seventh to end the game.

UAM will host GAC rival Southern Arkansas on Wednesday, beginning at 2 p.m.

Slaughter tosses one-hitter

MONTICELLO — The Arkansas-Monticello softball team finalized a four-game Great American Conference series sweep over Southern Arkansas on Sunday with a 6-2 win and a 1-0 win the second game on a one-hit shutout performance from sophomore Katie Slaughter.

Slaughter (13-7) allowed a walk in the first and a single in the sixth for SAU’s only base runners of the game. She finished the game with four strikeouts.

The Cotton Blossoms (26-20, 12-10 GAC) scored the only run of the game in the bottom of the third on an RBI single from senior Maggie Sands to score freshman Cassidy Wilson.

In the first game, senior Randa Perry (10-11) earned the complete-game victory after allowing two unearned runs off four hits with five strikeouts in seven innings of work. UAM travels to Conway on Wednesday for a non-conference game against Central Arkansas, beginning at 6 p.m.
