Williams’ hat trick leads Pine Bluff past LV

Lorenzo Williams scored three goals, and Pine Bluff improved to 2-0 on the boys soccer season with a 5-1 win over Lake Village on Wednesday.

Jairo Ledesma and Malik Jenkins also scored for Pine Bluff, which held Lake Village to six shots.

Pine Bluff will play at Bryant today.

Hunter homers in Tigers’ spring training rout

LAKELAND, Fla. — Torii Hunter launched his first home run of spring training Wednesday, helping the Detroit Tigers defeat the Toronto Blue Jays 4-1.

Hunter, a Pine Bluff native, led off the fifth inning with a shot off Michael Schwimer. Hunter finished 1 for 2 on the day. He is batting .261 during spring training in the 2-hole.

Francis aces No. 16 at Jaycee Golf Course

Charles Francis made a hole-in-one on the par-3 No. 16 at Jaycee Golf Course from 120 yards out, using a pitching wedge.

Sam Smith and Gerald Young witnessed the shot.

Sugar Bears dominate Lady Lions, 10-2

CONWAY — Central Arkansas won its final softball game before starting Southland Conference play, beating Arkansas-Pine Bluff 10-2.

UAPB (0-11) scored runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Heather Leigh (0-4) gave up all 10 runs on 12 hits and three walks, striking out one to take the loss.
