Braves split doubleheader


LITTLE ROCK — The Pine Bluff Braves dropped the first game of a doubleheader with the West Chase Express of Houston, but came back to win the second game in the Little Rock Rangers’ Memorial Weekend Tournament at Fair High School on Saturday.

West Chase won 3-2 in the first game, but Pine Bluff got five strikeouts each from Michael Marsh (3 2/3 innings) and Corey Thompson (3 1/3). Sebastian Stargell Jr. drove in a run and scored another, Deonta Howard had a hit and stolen base and Chase Smith scored a run for Pine Bluff.

The Braves (2-1) left the bases loaded in the sixth inning.

In a 4-3 victory. Howard pitched a complete game. Stargell and V.J. Dickson each went 2 for 4, Stargell scored two runs, Jeffery Works drove in a run, and Dickson and Smith scored a run each.

The Braves will host the Clinton Cardinals next weekend at Regional Park.
