Zebras earn first basketball win at Cabot

CABOT — Darrian Kee scored 18 points, Marcus Thomas added 17 and Pine Bluff picked up its first victory of the season in boys basketball Friday with a 55-47 win over Cabot.

Pine Bluff (1-2) led 44-27 after three quarters and withheld a late charge by Cabot to pick up the win.

Martino Green finished with nine points and Ervin Jones had eight for Pine Bluff.

Dollarway 65, Newport 48

At Dollarway, Davonne Chapman led the way with 17 points as the Cardinals (3-1, 1-0 in 2-4A) opened conference play with a victory over the Greyhounds.

Dollarway hit 30 of 59 field-goal attempts and outrebounded Newport 31-26.

DeAaron Adway scored 12 points and Lamarcus Hawkins chipped in seven for Dollarway, which will play Hamburg at 8:30 tonight in the championship of the FBT Bank & Mortgage Classic in Fordyce.

Marcus Neal led Newport with 13 points.

Conway 57, Watson Chapel 48

At Watson Chapel, the 5A Wildcats (2-1) suffered their first loss of the season against the 7A Wampus Cats.

Tevin Brown netted 13 points and Charles Owens had 12 for Watson Chapel, which will play at Cabot at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Victory Christian 47, St. Joseph 40 (OT)

CAMDEN — St. Joseph’s Josh Sanders hit a three-point basket with 15 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 36, but Victory Christian proved too much for the Huskies (2-7, 1-5 AACS South) to handle in overtime.

Sanders led with 15 points, followed by Randy Whiteside’s 12 points.

McGehee 60, Dumas 48

DUMAS — McGehee cruised to a 12-point victory over its former 8-4A Conference rival.

McGehee was led by Zachary Ellis, who finished with 22 points. Tracey Lawson chipped in with 10.


Conway 83, Watson Chapel 61

At Watson Chapel, guard Enjonae Chambers finished with 29 points in leading the Wampus Cats to a victory over the Lady Wildcats (2-3).

Conway led 41-33 at halftime and started to pull away before Watson Chapel climbed back to within 10 points.

Kamera Bozeman led Watson Chapel with 15 points. She was followed by Jasmine Bell with 13 and Kierra Cox with 10.

For the Wampus Cats, Kianna Speight had 16 points and Asia Willard added 13.

Watson Chapel will play Searcy at 8:30 p.m. Monday in the Cabot tournament.

Star City 56, Riverview 47

STAR CITY — Tyeshia Harris collected 19 points and four rebounds in helping the Lady Bulldogs improve to 7-1 on the season.

Jaida Harden contributed nine points and five rebounds for Star City, which was ahead 23-14 at the break.
