Woodlawn seals ninth straight district title

HAMPTON — Bret Boyd launched two solo home runs, Trey Chapman hit another, and Woodlawn blanked Hampton 9-0 Tuesday to secure its ninth straight baseball district championship.

Boyd and Chapman both went 3 for 4 to lead the Bears (15-7, 6-1 in 7-2A East). Chapman also had two doubles and three RBIs.

Jacob Richardson and Blake Erstine each had two hits for Woodlawn.

J.P. Aiken held Hampton to one hit and two walks and struck out six in five innings for the win. Boyd worked the other two innings, striking out two and allowing no hits.

Fordyce 2, Smackover 0

SMACKOVER — The Fordyce Redbugs (18-2, 7-0 in 8-3A) remain undefeated in conference with a 2-0 victory over Smackover on Tuesday.

Dane Kemp, Jordan Manes, and Tommy Tidwell each had one hit. Austin Hollis had a sacrifice fly that scored a run, and Cole Johnson also had an RBI.

Johnson earned the victory after pitching a complete game. He allowed only two hits and had 13 strikeouts.

The Redbugs will travel to Drew Central on Thursday.

Hamburg 2, Star City 0

HAMBURG — Star City (15-7, 10-2 in 8-4A) managed just four hits as the Bulldogs lost a pitchers’ duel on Tuesday with a 2-0 loss to Hamburg.

Zack House (8-1) pitched a complete game, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits with three strikeouts. Bo McBroom led the Bulldogs at the plate, finishing 2 for 2 with two doubles. Blake Wynn and Austin Powell had the other two hits.

Hamburg’s Nate Wooten pitched a complete game, allowing four hits with 10 strikeouts. He also led Hamburg at the plate, finishing 2 for 3 with two runs scored.

The Bulldogs will face Crossett on Thursday at home.

Drew Central 14, Little Rock Mills 12

At Taylor Field, the Drew Central Pirates (7-12, 0-7 in 8-3A) defeated the Little Rock Mills Comets 14-12 on Tuesday.

Colton Davis led the Pirates with three hits and three RBIs. Will Jackson also contributed with two hits and two RBIs.

Aaron Goad received the win, going three innings with four strikeouts. The Pirates will host Fordyce Thursday.

Sheridan 6-9, Little Rock Fair 0-1

LITTLE ROCK — The Yellowjackets (10-11, 5-6 in 7A/6A-South) took both games in a doubleheader against the War Eagles on Tuesday.

Joe Eggburn earned the win in the first game, pitching a complete game. Eggburn also had two hits. In the second game, Garrett Williams earned the win, pitching a complete game with four strikeouts. Brady Bibb had two hits in this game.

The Yellowjackets will continue conference play against Bryant on Thursday at Sheridan.


Woodlawn 14, Parkers Chapel 2

WOODLAWN — The Woodlawn Lady Bears (17-7, 13-2 in 7-2A East) improved their conference record with a 14-2 win over Parkers Chapel Tuesday.

Anna Gavin led the Lady Bears at the plate going 2 for 2. Meagan Howard was 1 for 3 with a two-RBI double.

Three Woodlawn pitchers combined for a one-hitter. Lily Henderson got the win, going three innings and striking out five. Maddie Stewart pitched the fourth inning, and Amber Helms pitched the fifth.

The Lady Bears will play conference opponent Rison today at home.

Ridgway Christian 18, Cornerstone Christian 3

TILLAR — The Ridgway Christian softball scored nine runs in the seventh inning and defeated Cornerstone Christian 18-3 on Tuesday.

Ridgway’s Madison Heflin had two hits including an inside-the-park home run and a triple. Paige Topping and Bethann Rogers also had two hits.

Crystal McVay came in as relief in the third inning and she retired 14 of the 16 batters she faced.

Ridgway (9-1, 7-1 in AACS South Region) scored a run in the first, two in the second, a run in the third, four in the fourth and one in the sixth. Cornerstone scored a run in the fifth and two in the third.

Ridgway will host Pulaski Home School on Thursday at Seabrook.
