White Hall 5, Hope 4 (PK)

WHITE HALL — White Hall recovered from a 2-0 deficit at halftime to defeat Hope 5-4 on penalty kicks Friday night at home.

Ben Malone, Ruben Zamora, Garrett Griffith, Jordan Lawson all scored goals in the overtime to give the Bulldogs the win. White Hall (6-4-1, 1-2 in 5A South) cut Hope’s lead to 2-1 at the 5-minute mark of the second half. A shot from Tyler Maynard bounced off the keeper and Lawson was able to poke it in from about 5 yards out.

At the 22-minute mark, Kinzie Kight dribbed the ball into the White Hall offensive corner. He crossed the ball to the far post and Zamora was able to put in the top of the goal to tie the game.

Hope took a 1-0 lead at the 10-minute mark in the first lead and scored again from about 35 yards out to take a 2-0 lead at the 38-minute mark.

Hope had a chance to win the game with about 46 seconds left after White Hall committed a foul from about 25 yards out. But the shot missed and the game remained tied at the end of regulation.

White Hall’s William Tietz, who filled in at keeper after the Bulldogs’ regular keeper suffered a concussion last week, earned his first ever win at that position.

Tietz had not practiced in goal any this season but he blocked 10 shots in the win.

The game was a rematch and a remake from a state tournament match from two years ago. That game also ended in penalty kicks.
