HOT SPRINGS — White Hall senior Cole Guy was stopped in his bid to win a state tennis championship for a third straight year.

Guy finished third in the 5A boys singles tournament Tuesday after falling to Julio Olaya of Pulaski Academy 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 in the semifinal round. Olaya then lost to teammate Jake Jacoby for the championship.

Guy, the 5A-South Conference champion, won the 5A and overall state doubles titles with brother Josh in 2010. The next year, he won the 5A singles title and finished as overall runner-up.

White Hall had three more players compete in the high school state tournaments. Tyler Sidwell, who was third in the conference, lost to Jackson Doshier of Harrison 2-6, 6-1, 6-4. Mary Passmore and Lizzie Bridgforth won their first doubles match against a Beebe duo 6-0, 6-4, before falling to a Harrison pair 6-4, 6-1.

It was Passmore’s and Bridgforth’s first victory in four years at state.

In the 6A state tournament at Russellville, sisters Ajia and Kye Richardson picked up Pine Bluff’s only victory, defeating a team from Mountain Home 6-1, 6-2. They lost to a Mountain Home pair that was seeded first, 6-3, 6-3.
