WC win away from perfect 5A-South season


MAGNOLIA — Watson Chapel shut out Magnolia in the first quarter and didn’t allow a basket until about 2 minutes into the second quarter Monday, marching to a 49-24 girls basketball victory.

Watson Chapel (19-6, 13-0 in 5A-South), which has already secured the conference championship, can finish league play undefeated with a win at second-place Hot Springs on Thursday.

Jasmine Bell and Kamera Bozeman each scored 14 points to lead the Lady Wildcats, who led 14-0 after one quarter and 28-6 at halftime.

Magnolia finished the season 5-18 and 1-13.

MAGNOLIA — The Wildcats missed out on securing a state tournament berth, falling to the Panthers in double overtime.

Watson Chapel (12-12, 8-6 in 5A-South) has slipped to fourth place in the 5A-South and likely needs to defeat Hot Springs on Thursday to get into the 5A state tournament, which Watson Chapel will host at the Pine Bluff Convention Center.

Jalen Courtney scored 10 points and Ben Marcus had eight for the Wildcats, who have lost two straight after a four-game winning streak.
