WC girls edge Vilonia at ‘Brier

GREENBRIER — Watson Chapel evened its overall record at 5-5 with a 45-41 girls basketball victory over Vilonia on Thursday in the Battle at the ‘Brier tournament.

Kamera Bozeman led Watson Chapel with 12 points. She was followed by Chelsea Payne with 11.

Watson Chapel will play Benton at 4 p.m. today in the tournament.

White Hall 49, Stuttgart 42

MONTICELLO — White Hall opened the Southeast Arkansas Holiday Tournament on Thursday with a 49-42 victory over Stuttgart in girls basketball action.

Next up for the Lady Bulldogs is a semifinal meeting with Drew Central, which is hosting the first two days of the tournament.

JaeLisa Allen scored a game-high 13 points and Hailey Wilkins added 10 for White Hall. Stuttgart was paced by Haley Johnson with 12 points and Tiffany Gibson with 10.

Drew Central 59, Dollarway 20

MONTICELLO — The host Lady Pirates easily sailed past the Lady Cardinals in the opening round of the SEARK Holiday Tournament.

Kari Milton had 16 points and Cierra Gardner scored 15 to lead Drew Central.

Sheridan 52, Dumas 46

MONTICELLO — Kadesha Cooper scored 14 points and Bryanna Moltz added 13 in powering the Lady Jackets over the Lady Cats in the second girls game of the SEARK Holiday Tournament.

Whitney Henderson led Dumas with 13 points.

McGehee 56, Monticello 41

MONTICELLO — The Lady Billies won’t get to defend their championship in the SEARK Holiday Tournament after losing by 15 points to the Lady Owls.

Shakyla Bernard scored 28 points, exactly half of McGehee’s scoring, and Raven Burks added 14.

Dontazsha Brown led Monticello with 11.


Drew Central 75, White Hall 64

MONTICELLO — Dilly Binns connected on six three-point baskets and scored a game-high 27 points in leading the Pirates past the Bulldogs in the SEARK Holiday Tournament.

Jerrelle Binns added 21 for Drew Central, while Lamarcus Davis led White Hall with 15.

Monticello 74, Fordyce 43

MONTICELLO — At the SEARK Holiday Tournament, Torry Butler and Christian Roberson each scored 15 points in leading the Billies to a decisive victory over the Redbugs.

The win sets up a rematch of last year’s championship game with Marion at 4:30 p.m. today. Marion is the defending champion.

Rashad Allen had 17 points to lead Fordyce.

Marion 65, McGehee 54

MONTICELLO — Marion maintained its title defense in the SEARK Holiday Tournament behind Dereon Thomas’ 22 points and Syndarian Spencer’s 12.

McGehee, a 3A contender taking on 6A power Marion, was led by Zach Ellis with 20 points and Marcus Miller with 12.

Bastrop (La.) 52, Stuttgart 39

MONTICELLO — Lavonte Kelley had 14 points to lead Stuttgart (1-6), but the Ricebirds could not overcome a 25-point performance by Jatavious Wilson in the first boys game of the SEARK Holiday Tournament.
