WARREN – Warren overcame a 17-6 second-quarter deficit here Friday night by scoring 39 unanswered points to claim the 8-4A Conference title with a 45-23 win over Hamburg.
The Lumberjacks (6-3, 6-0) jumped out to a 6-0 lead on an early 8-yard touchdown run by Justin Gorman. Hamburg (5-4. 4-2) then erupted for 17 consecutive points before Warren started its comeback with a 43-yard touchdown pass from Drake Jones to Darveon Brown that cut Hamburg’s lead to 17-12 at halftime.
Jones put Warren ahead for good at 18-17 with a 15-yard third-quarter touchdown run. Before the end of the quarter, the Lumberjacks took a 32-17 lead on a pair of Kilay Cox scoring runs, the first from 8 yards and the second from 3 yards out.
The Lumberjacks stretched their lead to 45-17 in the fourth quarter when Cox notched his third touchdown with a 26-yard run and Odis Miller scored on a 3-yard run.
