Stuttgart stumbles against Lonoke

A week after beating Dollarway, Stuttgart, the top-ranked team in Class 4A by, was upset by Lonoke 28-7.

“Just think we had a hangover form the Dollarway game and played a good football team that has been up and down and they were up this time,” Stuttgart coach Billy Elmore said. “We were playing defense all night and stunk the game up. There is plenty of blame to go around with the coaches and players.”

Stuttgart (8-1, 5-1 2-4A Conference) took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter on Tyler Luster’s 20-yard touchdown run. Lonoke (5-4, 3-3) then went on to score 28 unanswered points.

“I give a lot of credit to Lonoke. They did a great job,” Elmore said. “The team that beat Dollarway did not s how it (Friday).”

If Stuttgart wins next week against Marianna, it can still win a share of the conference title with Dollarway and earn a first-round bye in the playoffs.

“”We can recover from this and maybe it’s an eye opener and hopefully maintain our number one seed next week and get back on track,” Elmore said.
